Helping former Jehovah’s Witnesses and other cult survivors rebuild their lives with hope, healing, and freedom.
New Light Rising is a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals break free from high-control religious groups and cultic environments. We provide support, resources, and community for survivors, with special focus on Jehovah’s Witnesses, so they can heal and rebuild. Our goal is to help survivors build thriving, self-directed lives.
Leaving a high-control group is not the end of the journey—it’s the beginning of a new one. Survivors often face isolation, stigma, and challenges in education, employment, and mental health. New Light Rising exists to fill those gaps, offering survivors hope, dignity, and practical pathways forward.
Our Mission
To empower survivors of Jehovah’s Witnesses and other high-control groups with the tools, support, and encouragement they need to reclaim their lives, restore their voices, and create futures of choice and autonomy.
Our Vision
A world where every survivor of religious or emotional control has access to safety, stability, and empowerment.
Emotional & Peer Support – Safe spaces, mentorship, and survivor-led groups to process experiences and find belonging.
Practical Resources – Guidance on education, career development, housing, and life skills for those starting over.
Awareness & Advocacy – Raising public understanding of the impact of high-control groups and promoting systemic change.
Community Building – Creating networks where survivors can connect, share stories, and grow together!
At New Light Rising, every survivor matters. Whether you were part of the Jehovah’s Witnesses or another high-control group, you are not alone. We are here to walk with you as you step into freedom, healing, and new light.
Message from the Founder
"This work is deeply personal to me. I created New Light Rising because as a former Jehovah's Witness, I know the unique struggles that come with leaving behind a high-control environment. This is more than a nonprofit, it’s a community of hope. A real chance to live the "best life ever" I was taught to believe in.” – Keysha Barnhart
